According to PetSmart Charities, "It is estimated that as many as 500,000 abandoned or stray pets enter Texas animal shelters each year. In Houston alone, 126,000 pets find their way to the shelters and 71 percent are euthanized each year because there are far more pets than there are adoptive homes.

In Dallas-Ft. Worth alone, 119,000 pets find their way to the shelters and 69 percent are euthanized each year."

In these two metroplex areas of Texas alone, that's 245,000 pets entering the shelters and 171,500 whose lives end there. Annually. Tragic for the shelter workers to experience, and it definitely says something about our society.
